Kunst im Quartier | Duo exhibition with Laure Boer | Hamburg 2023
In their joint work, Laure Boer and Penny Monogiou explore a long tradition of female representation in art history and pop culture. The two artists collected Playboy covers, images of Madonna and various images of women from different eras that depict women with classic attributes of the male gaze: Between divinity and eroticism, tender mother figure and sexy powerhouse. In the form of a textile collage, Boer and Monogiou contrast this tradition of representation with more complex and ambivalent images of women.
