A collaboration between Penny Monogiou and Lucas Betz, who created the video projection. The work was created in situ on the island of Hydra in the summer of 2025 during the artist’s residency in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts.
Like the ancient caravans that once carried stories across the island, Penny Monogiou’s painting travelled across Hydra – it saw, it recorded, it became part of the island. But what remains of what it has seen?
Penny Monogiou and Lucas Betz’s camera captured what it saw and reproduced it in a spatial installation. But as with any story passed from mouth to mouth, the truth changes. What remains is an interpretation – an image between reality and imagination. Truth or myth is in the eye of the beholder.
